Trekking and Hiking
From Roccacaramanico to Guado S. Leonardo At the foothills East of the Morrone
Monte le Mucchia (1986m) From Roccacaramanico to the Eastern slopes and La Piscina, descending to the Costa Del Sole A short steep itinerary, but rich, however, in elements of interest. It starts in a beautiful forest,in which the ascent begins to unwind and then follows an easy uphill route, and then , a steep and rapid descent on the Costa del Sole facing La Maiella. It is a trip that goes around the big ravine of "il Vallone" ("deep Valley") which is gravely and awkward and best not traveled. The village of Roccacaramanico adds to the interest of this trip.
Monte Mileto (1920) From Guado S.Leonardo traveling East This is the shortest and most frequented itinerary in order to climb to the crest of the summit of the Morrone which joins to the wide top of Monte Mileto. The forest ,even in summer, makes the trip possible. This is not the case in the next itinerary listed here. The newly excavated road which replaces the old mule path has drastically reduced the sights of interest along this route. The pan of the Maiella ,however, remain exceptional!
Morrone of Pacentro (1800m) From Pacentro by way of the Vallone of Mileto, descending on the Eastern slope
Monte Parrara (2137m) From Madonna of the Altare(Altar) by way of the slopes on the Southeast and the South Crest A pleasant itinerary, varied and not hard, which climbs to the beautiful peak of Porrara beginning from the small sanctuary of the Madonna dell'Altare which is nestled in the southeastern side of the mountain. From the crest of the peak, the panorama widens towards the little hills of "chietino" and the basin of Sulmona. The side of the Maiella is seen alone from this summit.
Monte Amaro (2793m) From Fonte Romana by way of Vallone Fondo of the Maiella and Femmina Morta (Dead Woman), descent due directly West Classic itinerary, which establishes the natural road of the slope that looks toward Sulmona from the highest peak of the massive mountain. Not withstanding the gaps in the route, it is treated as a long, but not deadly, course that changes entirely the character of the little forks of the Maiella. In the descent, the "due directly" West " permits a "gallop" or that is, a fast descent. The starting point has been considerably disfigured from the felling of the forests in 1986: a newly excavated route now permits one to save about half an hour.
The "oriental (eastern) balcony" of the Maiella from M. Amaro to Guado Di Coccia and Campo di Giove by way of Valloni di Taranta,Izzo and Lettopalena Those who climb from Campo di Giove to M. Amaro across Fondo Maiella and Femmina Morte, find the hidden and amazing wildnerness of the eastern group. If you don't arrange for two cars to be able to cross to Fara San Martino or to Taranta Peligna, this itinerary will allow a return at the point of departure with a spectacular crossing halfway up the slope on the the eastern side of the Maiellla, a balcony toward the Monte Pizzi, the Valle dell'Aventino and along the slope. A warning: important, about being able to turn back , the crossing is very long.It is naturally a journey to be done only after having spent the night at the Rifugio Manzini or at Bivacco Pelino. |
