For those whose passion is Nordic skiing,the mountains of Abruzzo are an ideal terrain for playing. Sweetly undulating plateaus, carriage trails and mule trails in the heart of the woods, sweet sloping valleys offer to those who love long distance skiing an extraordinary variety of courses.We list the districts devoted exclusively to cross country.

 

The Ceppo (log/ stump) - From this pass to 1334 meters,a beaten path(run) leads to the heart of the forest Martese, this (is) the most spectacular of the Monti della Laga (mountains of the lake).

 

Santo Stefano di Sessanio -In the heart of Campo Imperatore,  the loops of this locality reach  to 13 km from the historical center dominated by the imposing medieval tower, and wind up at nearly 1573 meters of Lago Racollo.

 

Castel del Monte -(Mountain Castle) - Much appreciated by those fans of Nordic ski, the runs wind towards the extreme eastern side of Campo Imperatore, between the plains of Cretarola and the Piettratina spring.

 

Piano di Pezza -(Planes of Pezza) - Accessible not far from  Rocca di Mezzo , the runs which wind on the plateau are in the heart of the Parco Regionale Sirente-Velino, and reached by the beautiful beech forests

 of the Cerchiata .

 

Opi - The  most interesting cross-country trails of the Parco Nationale d'Abruzzo wind through the magnificant plateau of of Macchiarvana, between Opi and the pass of Forca d'Acero (fork of the Maple ).

 

Scanno - Two interesting loops unwind through the plateau of Passi Godi (1560 meters) on the confines of the Parco Nationale d'Abruzzo, which are joined  by ,at 14 km, in the historical city. It is possible to climb the pass also from Villetta Barrea or from the Sangro Valley

 

Bosco di Sant'Antonio (Saint Anthony Forest) - A little north of Pescocostanzo, a splendid long distance run which unfurls between the centuries old  beech forest of Saint Anthony and the valleys that separate it from Monte Rotella.
